2006年7月的一个清晨，成都大熊猫繁育研究基地的大熊猫们像往常一样在园子里嬉戏玩耍，尽情享受饲养员给它们带来的食物。
而负责它们健康的兽医罗娌则急匆匆地从竹林中穿过。因为很多迹象表明，两头雌性大熊猫已经有怀孕待产的迹象。

2004年8月，大熊猫二丫头出现罕见的“难产”，虽然经过工作人员的尽力抢救，幼仔还是不幸胎死腹中。做为当时现场的一名兽医，罗娌非常难过。奇珍奇缘能否顺利生产，成为大熊猫基地工作人员心中放不下的石头。吸取了以往的经验，罗娌和同事加紧了对奇珍奇缘的观察，通过对她们的尿液和雌激素的化验分析，罗娌和同事们推断出，姐妹俩个的预产期大约在8月2号到10号之间。2004年8月2日终于来到了，罗娌一大早就直奔奇珍奇缘的产房，然而，经过一天的等待，奇珍和奇缘并没有生产的反应。
